Part I: Urban Design Guidelines for All Subdivision and Development in the District

6    Roading and Pedestrian Access

6.3    Provision of On-Street Parking

The District Plan requires off-street parking to be provided for every dwelling. Some on-road parking for visitors and short-term parking should also be provided in a way that maintains the amenity of the street.

Developers should consider the following design elements:

  • Parallel kerbside parking distributed throughout the subdivision is good for visitor and resident parking
  • Parking should be concentrated alongside public areas to promote public use and to reduce the number of vehicles parked on residential roads
  • Where parking bays are provided, they must not interfere with driveways or negate the function of any public space
  • Ensure street-trees are located away from services and the carriageway
