Community Boards Print E-mail

The Matamata-Piako District has a Community Board for each ward within the district. The residents (and other enrolled voters) vote during local body elections for which four members from their ward they want to represent them. Each Community Board meets monthly. Their roles include:

 

  • Representing their community and acting as advocates for their interests
  • Considering and reporting on any matter referred to it by the Council and any issues of interest or concern to the Community Board
  • Making an annual submission to the Council on expenditure in the community
  • Maintaining an overview of services provided by the Council within the community
  • Acting as a channel of communication between the community and Council
  • And undertaking any other responsibilities delegated by the Council.
