The Gardener’s Cottage was constructed in 1907 to provide accommodation for the Domain gardener, who typically lived on site. The cottage is a non-standard 'villa' type house based on an 'L' shaped plan with flush bay windows.

In 1989 it was used by DOC as an information center on the walking tracks and features of the site, and then as a therapeutic massage business. The building now houses the Domain Cottage Cafe.
