Agrecovery

Agrecovery is a product stewardship programme that is financed by a levy collected by participating New Zealand brand owners (agrichemical manufacturers and distributors) and paid to the Agrecovery Foundation.

All containers are inspected by a trained inspector prior to being accepted so it is important that farmers who want to use the service ensure their containers are eligible for collection and have been cleaned properly (triple rinsed). Details of the acceptance standards and the types and brands of containers that can be taken to collection sites can be found on the Agrecovery website.

Silage Wrap Collection

Agpac Ltd, in conjunction with Slattery Contracting Ltd, has launched the first Waikato hub for the collection of used bale wrap plastic from farms for recycling.

Slattery Contracting is an agricultural contracting business and bale silage wrap for farmers during the spring and summer. The collection and recycling of this plastic has been a concern for them and their customers for many years; it was not been collected in the past due to the high levels of contamination and the dispersed nature of the farming industry.

By using a simple bin and liner system, it is easy for the farmer to recycle this valuable resource and keep their farms tidy at the same time.

The collected plastic wrap filled liners are consolidated at the Slattery's hub prior to transport to the recycler in Auckland. Once recycled the plastic is used to produce sheets of new material which are then used to make more Bins. This is closed loop recycling.
