Noise Control Print E-mail

Noise is part of our everyday lives, but excessive or unreasonable noise can cause frustration for many people. Under the Resource Management Act 1991, Council can control excessive or unreasonable noise to help reduce this frustration.

Noise complaints can be made any time by ringing any of the Council offices (after hours calls will be diverted to an appropriate contractor); the noise complaint will then be assessed and the appropriate action taken.

If the noise is excessive a notice can be served requiring it to be reduced to a reasonable level. If that notice is not complied with, the contractor accompanied with a police officer, can remove or disable the equipment creating the noise.

Noise deemed to be unreasonable may require further monitoring, and this will be carried out by one of Council's Environmental Health Officers.

If you have any queries about noise control or would like to make a complaint, phone Council on 0800 746 467.
