Council currently owns 109 rental elderly person's flats in Matamata, Morrinsville and Te Aroha. Eldery person's housing provides residents with privacy and independence, with the knowledge that they are near people of their own age and have a secure, affordable home.

Units have one bedroom, and many have special features such as floor level disabled access showers, safety rails and ramps, to ensure that they meet the needs of the wide variety of tenants.

The rental units are reasonably priced, with rental prices sitting below the market average for the area - current prices are $105 per week* for a one bedroom flat and $126 per week* for a two bedroom flat. Two weeks of rent must be paid in advance, as well as a bond of four weeks rent, which is lodged with Tenancy Services. We look after all the interior and exterior maintenance, including mowing the lawns, as part of the rental agreement.

Elderly person's housing is ideal for those who wish to downsize their home, to something a little more low cost and low maintenance. Depending on the preferred location there may be a flat available now, otherwise you may have to go on a waiting list to wait for a vacancy to occur.
