Fire Seasons Print E-mail

Current season: Open Fire Season (no permit required)

There are three different fire seasons:

  • Open
  • Restricted
  • Prohibited

An Open Fire Season means that you can light fires in the open air.

A Restricted Fire Season means that you can only light a fire in the open air if you have a Permit from a Rural Fire Officer of the Thames Valley Rural Fire District. Contact your closest Council office for a permit or more information.

A Prohibited Fire Season means you cannot light any fires in the open air.

Anyone who starts a fire (or assists to start a fire) during a restricted fire season without a permit, or during a prohibited fire season, can be prosecuted  under the Forest and Rural Fires Act. They are also liable for all costs incurred to extinguish the fire.
