3. Purpose

3.1 The purpose of this bylaw is to support:

1. The promotion and delivery of effective and efficient waste management and minimisation in Matamata-Piako District as required under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008;
2. The implementation of the council’s waste management and minimisation plans;
3. The purpose of the Waste Minimisation Act and the goals in the New Zealand Waste Strategy;
4. The regulation of the collection, transport, and processing of waste;
5. The protection of the health and safety of waste collectors, waste operators and the public; and
6. The management of litter and nuisance in public places.

3.2 This bylaw is made pursuant to the Waste Minimisation Act 2008, Local Government Act 2002, Health Act 1956, and the Litter Act 1979.
