Domain House Refurbishment
About the refurbishment
Over the past few months, Domain House in the Te Aroha Domain has received some much-needed repairs and maintenance to prepare it for commercial use again. The building will initially be leased by Te Aroha Mineral Spas (owned and operated by Matamata-Piako District Council) to house the popular beauty and massage arm of the business and is due to open its doors to customers mid-late November 2021.
Constructed in 1908, the Edwardian landmark has received some re-piling, had air conditioning installed and the veranda replaced to improve access and bring it up to standard.
Although the physical structure of the heritage building hasn’t changed, to accommodate the beauty and massage requirements additional internal walls have been built to create two one-bed treatment rooms, a two-bed treatment room, a waiting room and reception area with original copper ceiling and a manicure and pedicure room, with a staff area and the existing bathroom and kitchen out the back. The décor has had a refreshing makeover to suit the modern era, while complementing the character and nature of the building.
