Looking back at the last 12 months
Last year we consulted widely on our plans for the next 10 years (our Long Term Plan).
On the years in between Long Term Plans, we produce an Annual Plan, where we check progress against what we set out to do in the Long Term Plan, and make any changes or additions for the year ahead.
As part of our Annual Plan, we think it's important to share an update on the progress we've made in the last 12 months.
Connecting with the community
Over the last year we consulted on a wide range of issues – including our plans for the next 10 years (the Long Term Plan/LTP), the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP), the Parks and Open Spaces Strategy, the Dog Control Bylaws, as well on specific projects like the Morrinsville Recreation Ground, Thomas Park Playground, and the Pride of Place project for our town revitalisation.
We continue to be impressed with the level of pride and enthusiasm and innovative ideas that people share with us. We listen to this feedback, and really appreciate the time and efforts put into the submissions by our community.
Updates on key projects
Te Aroha Spa
Te Aroha Spa
We committed to building an $18.9 million spa in Te Aroha if the review of the business case stacks up. A lot of ground work has taken place in the last 12 months, with design concepts now underway
Changes to kerbside collections
Kerbside changes
We consulted on changing our kerbside collection service to divert more waste from landfill. We're working through the tender process to award a new contract.
Te Aroha bike skills track
Te Aroha bike skills track
The community told us that you wanted a bike skills track in Te Aroha. We committed to this in principle.
Morrinsville Water
Morrinsville water
The new bore is in place with draft resource consent conditions, which will allow us to treat and supply additional water for Morrinsville. Design of the Water Treatment Plant is under way.
Resource recovery centres
We’ve started on the ground work for resource recovery centres in Matamata and Morrinsville, including early engagement with local interest groups, which will influence the scope and design of the facilities.
Revitalising our town centres

This project, known as Pride of Place, is well under way in Matamata, and will kick off in Morrinsville later this year, followed by Te Aroha in early 2023.

Morrinsville Rec Master Plan
We've started a codesign project with the Morrinsville community to understand their visions for the Morrinsville Recreations Grounds
Dog parks
Dog Parks
You told us loud and clear that you wanted dogs parks in Matamata and Te Aroha - so late last year we reviewed the Dog Control Bylaw and created off leash areas in both towns.
Walking & cycling connections
Walking & cycling connections
We committed to a 'slow but steady' approach to improving walking and cycling connections across the district, and have been acquiring land to support this.
