Civic Centre blessed and opening for business on 19 March
Plans are progressing for the opening of the new Matamata-Piako Civic and Memorial Centre, Te Whare Whakamaharatanga o te hāpori o Matamata-Piako.
The civic centre was blessed last week with a waerea by Ngāti Hauā kaumata Tumohe Clark and Raukawa kaumatua Te Hāpuku Rikiriki. Mokoro Gillet, Reverend Nua Langi and Reverend Stephen Prebble concluded the formal proceedings with a karakia.
The blessing, or waerea, follows completion of construction of the building by contractor Stanley Construction. Internal fit out can now start and staff will begin moving in from 12 March.
The temporary library opposite will be closed for a few days while books are relocated, with the centre to be open for business on Monday 19 March. Customer services will remain open at the temporary buildings in the meantime.
