Team effort makes a difference in Matamata-Piako

In November our Volunteer Youth Ambassadors launched their district wide Feed our Families campaign, asking businesses and individuals to donate food to their local food bank. They asked - and our community responded.

Over 400 grocery items were donated which was collected and delivered to Te Aroha, Morrinsville and Matamata Food Banks.

This food will be distributed to families who have been identified by supporting agencies - and just in time for Christmas.

For many of the VYA members, this was a first glimpse into the inner workings of food banks, who do an enormous job with a very small but dedicated committee behind them.

“It’s one thing to know about the food banks, it’s another to actually see all those hampers getting filled and ready to be sent off,” said VYA chair Patrick Roskam. “Im pleased we could do our part to support the food banks across the district and we are grateful to every business, school and individual who donated to the campaign - your contribution will make a huge difference to a family who is struggling at this time,” he said.
