Becoming or re-registering: An incorporated society workshop

We're collaborating with Community Waikato to bring you a practical workshop on becoming or renewing as an incorporated society or charitable trust.

Volunteers and community groups are the lifeblood of our communities. Updates to legislation mean there is a looming deadline on 5 April 2026 for any currently registered incorporated societies to re-register and meet new requirements. There is also new information for those thinking about starting a society or charity.

We want to make sure that all of our amazing current and future community groups are equipped for this change.

Join us and our friends from Community Waikato at the Matamata-Piako Civic and Memorial Centre in Matamata on Monday 9 February at 11am to go over:
  • key differences between an incorporated society and a charitable trust
  • pros and cons of each structure
  • a step-by-step process to register
  • what forms you need and where to lodge them
  • timeframes and next steps
  • re-registration under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022
This session is perfect for sports clubs, community groups, marae-based initiatives, and anyone wanting clarity on governance options. Bring your questions and current rules if you have them! RSVP by clicking 'going' on our Facebook event, or just come along on the day.
