Good bin placement

Whether you’re heading to work, coming home from a night shift, or getting the day started at home, rubbish day can sneak up on you.

When bins go out in a rush, they’re often placed haphazardly on the kerb, which can cause problems for you and our collection crews.

Have a look at what can happen if your food scraps bin is placed too close to your rubbish or recycling.

If this happens, you can request a replacement bin here. Damaged or alternative bins can’t be collected, so you’ll need to make other arrangements in the meantime.

Here are a few simple tips to keep things running smoothly:

  • Place your bins at least 30cm apart, ideally 60cm (about a small step apart)
  • Line them up from smallest to largest so the truck can see each one clearly
  • Have them kerbside by 7.30am on collection day so they’re not missed
  • Make sure bins aren’t overflowing and lids must close.
  • For glass crates, glass should stay below the rim or they may not be emptied.
