![]() | Enclosed park space at/near Swap park |

Full description of idea:
I believe Matamata is sorely lacking the presence of a large park space. I am thinking the likes of what currently exists at Founders Park. This is a nice space but is too small. Even in the middle of this "park", I still feel surrounded by roads. Something along these lines, but much larger would be nice in the current open greenspace at Swap Park. This vast expanse of grass is not needed for sports fields, so it would be a great place to plant trees around the perimeter and plant flower gardens within the space. A duck pond would also be a nice addition here. The current duck pond near Pohlen Park is lovely, but there is a lack of trees and gardens in that vacinity
How this idea will benefit the community:
This idea would provide a lovely park space for enjoying nature and feeling removed from hustle & bustle, while still being easily accessible from town. Matamata currently has several spots which have some of these elements, but there is no complete space which is sufficiently isolated from car traffic. Founders Park, Tom Grant Drive, and Centennial Drive all are too close to cars. The duck pond near Pohlen Park has no trees or gardens for shelter or an enclosed feel.
