Membership

Who Can Join
The libraries are funded largely by rates and this entitles all residents to free membership to all our libraries. Free membership is also available to residents of our neighbouring Districts and Cities.

How To Join
To join you need to complete a registration form (taking responsibility for all charges incurred on your account) and show the following:

  1. Personal identification with your full name and signature
    eg, Passport, NZ Drivers License, Bank/Credit Card, Student ID
  2. Proof of your residential (not postal) address
    eg, Rate Demand, Power or Telephone Account, Bank Statement 
  3. Alternate contact person with phone number
  4. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian will need to come in with you to sign and take responsibility for your library account (not required if you are between 16 – 18 and married or living independently of your guardians)

Please Note: You may make 1 phone renewal. Further extensions must be made in person at your nearest library.
There is a 20 item borrowing limit on each member’s account.

Stopped Membership Cards
Customer’s cards will be stopped from further use when amounts owed by the individual or family exceeds $5 and / or more than 30 days has elapsed since the date of first being charged.

Refunds
If an item that has been lost and paid for is returned to the library in good condition within 2 months from the date of payment, a refund will be made. The amount of the refund will be the amount paid, minus any overdue fee that has accrued and / or administration charges. Please bring your receipt in too. Payment for individual parts of an item can not be refunded ie tapes, toys, etc.
