Zebra crossings to make Morrinsville CBD more accessible
Crossing the street in Morrinsville’s CBD is set to become a lot easier for pedestrians, with plans to convert two existing raised courtesy crossings into marked pedestrian (zebra) crossings along Thames Street.
The work is part of our Morrinsville CBD Accessibility Improvements and Morrinsville Pride of Place Plan, which saw a need for easier and safer options for pedestrians, particularly those with limited mobility, a visual impairment or those who use wheeled mobility aids, to have dedicated places to safely cross the main street.
“We’ve responded to concerns about safety and accessibility and pleased we’ll be making it easier for pedestrians to cross the main street and access the great range of shops, services and eateries in the Morrinsville CBD,” said Mayor Adrienne.
We will also be improving some existing courtesy crossings, mobility parks and dropping some kerbs to make them safer and more accessible to use.
The tender for the improvements will be going out shortly, with work due to start in the new year. The improvements are made possible thanks to Government funding for accessibility improvements in the Morrinsville, Matamata and Te Aroha CBDs.
