Increase the amount of treated water supply available especially in periods of low rainfall

Submitted by Maurice Hight

Water and Wastewater

Full description of idea:

There is no short age water (at least there shouldn't be) especially in the MPDC district. In some areas there is a lack of storage but not in the town of Te Aroha - there is millions of litres passing the town. Many farmers are able to irrigate 24/7 for most of the summer without significantly diminishing the flow down-stream. The Waikato Regional Council has a monitoring role on draw off, but they are not held in high regard as is evident with the Auckland situation. What we are short of in this District is the Treatable Capacity. Water is a basic right of ratepayers and MPDC should prioritise the increase of treatment capacity in our district especially with the increased influence of Climate Change which is increasing in severity year-on-year.

How this idea will benefit the community:

By eliminating Summer and Autumn water restrictions.
