Full description of idea:

Prepare a new (forward-thinking and innovative) Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan. The current one is woefully inadequate and out-of-date.
Hire a part- or full-time or contract sustainability advisor. This person would guide Council efforts for its own operations and as well as in implementing changes to policies and community practices.
Provide in-service training for all staff and elected official so they fully understand what 'sustainability' is, what needs to be done to address it, and the part they can/should play in it (needs 'ownership' if action is to occur).

How this idea will benefit the community:

Will make for healthier quality of life for current residents and, most important, contribute to any chance there might be for a decent future for young people and future generations.
Reduce council costs (through pay-back on work of a sustainability advisor).
Improve quality and reduce environmental impact of all new construction and renovations.
Serves as an umbrella approach and 'screen' for all Council responsibilities and activities.
