In December 2024, Te Hauora o Ngāti Hauā hosted “Christmas at the Hauora” in Waharoa — a vibrant community wellness event aimed at promoting health and connection through kaupapa Māori values. This free expo welcomed hundreds of people, offering health checks, immunisations, and direct access to over 20 hauora-focused organisations. The initiative was created to support community wellbeing over the summer, particularly among tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau.

Our Community Partnerships and Development team worked with this group to support their event. We teamed up with MPDC Libraries and provided on the ground support including giant interactive games, craft stations and displays of Te Reo and rongoā Māori books. We also, were able to offer a financial contribution to wellness kits for attendees via the Pride of Place Community-Led Initiatives grant.

Looking ahead, Te Hauora o Ngāti Hauā is working to develop future events in Waharoa.
