Description
Alongside Ngāti Tumutumu Trust and the Department of Conservation (DoC), our Community Development and Partnerships team worked with the community to host the free event, "Pests, Predators, and Protectors: A Local Conservation Effort" on 20 March at Te Aroha Domain Pavilion. Set against the backdrop of Te Aroha Maunga, the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and to encourage community involvement in local conservation efforts.
Our team worked to secure the venue, coordinate speakers, and source free resources for the community. We organised featured presentations from experts in the conservation field, who gave interesting insights and tips on managing invasive weeds and predators.
The event has really sparked community interest in conservation, with a volunteer from Keep Te Aroha Beautiful stepping up to establish a volunteer predator trapping group in Te Aroha. We are helping the group the group to source funding, and connecting them with local conservation networks. For more information or to get involved, contact [email protected]
