Reserve on Spur Street, Te Aroha (Yellow A - portion opposite netball club and BMX track)

We’re looking at turning part of the reserve on Spur Street into a fenced off-leash area. What do you think?

Comments:
It's better than what we have currently in some respects, but I don't think it's big enough, has no river access, and is boring for dogs with no trees or other areas of interest.

Spur Street Esplanade, Te Aroha (Yellow B - portion near the Waihou River under the footbridge)

We’re looking at expanding the current Spur Street Esplanade into an off-leash area which will be managed by a community group but available for everyone to use. What do you think?

I like it and would use it
Comments:
I would like to see it fenced well as it backs onto the wetlands but with access to the river for dogs to swim. Currently, the pink area is unusable, it's too small, it is not contained as dogs can easily get under the fences and into the wetlands.

Te Aroha boat ramp

We’re looking at removing the boat ramp reserve, changing it from an off-leash to an on-lead area, as it’s prone to flooding and has the Hauraki Rail Trail running through it. What do you think?

Comments:
This area is the only true off-lead free running area for large/any dogs. Boyd park obviously is not suitable. If there was another area that was well fenced and had access to the river for dogs to swim we would not need to use this area at all, leaving it for the more suitable use for families, skateboarders and cyclists. I'm amazed there hasn't been any incidents with dogs chasing bikes or children in this area or worse up to now. It's definitely not a suitable area for dogs, but there is no alternative in Te Aroha without feeling like I am breaking the rules to provide my dog with some off-lead free time. Overall Te Aroha is a relatively dog unfriendly town compared to some other towns which is a real shame. Appreciate the opportunity to have my say and that you are looking at making a change as it is badly needed.
