Reserve on Spur Street, Te Aroha (Yellow A - portion opposite netball club and BMX track)

We’re looking at turning part of the reserve on Spur Street into a fenced off-leash area. What do you think?

I don’t like it and wouldn’t use it

Ridiculously small and boring. Totally inadequate unless you have a dog that wants to chase a ball around in 1 small area. My dog likes to walk somewhere interesting not around in circles. If you have a well trained dog there is no reason why you can't walk your dog off leash and just put them on lead when necessary.

Spur Street Esplanade, Te Aroha (Yellow B - portion near the Waihou River under the footbridge)

We’re looking at expanding the current Spur Street Esplanade into an off-leash area which will be managed by a community group but available for everyone to use. What do you think?

I don’t like it and wouldn’t use it

It takes all of 5 mins to walk to round there and then what? It's too small and boring.
There is hardly anywhere to exercise your dog off leash in NZ. And it's not just about exercise it is about having an interesting stimulating walk for both dog and human. Take a look at what England has to offer. You can walk for miles off leash all around the villages and countryside. NZ dog laws are draconian. If people didn't have pit bulls and other aggressive breeds I guess it wouldn't be so necessary to have so many restrictions.

Te Aroha boat ramp

We’re looking at removing the boat ramp reserve, changing it from an off-leash to an on-lead area, as it’s prone to flooding and has the Hauraki Rail Trail running through it. What do you think?

I don’t agree, leave it as an off-leash area
Do you use this area with your dogs off-leash?
Yes
How regularly do you use the area?
In the summer , once a week
Comments:
There is never anyone there, what harm can it do to have a dog off leash there for a swim. It is the only river access.
