Reserve on Spur Street, Te Aroha (Yellow A - portion opposite netball club and BMX track)

We’re looking at turning part of the reserve on Spur Street into a fenced off-leash area. What do you think?

I like it but wouldn’t use it
Comments:
Firstly, I don't have a dog so wouldn't make use of the area. However, I think it is a great idea to have an off leash area that is easier access from the carpark than the Spur Street Esplanade (pink). I go to Boyd Park and the Wetlands fairly frequently and almost every time I see dogs off lead on the Sport Park and/or on the wetland track. I once saw 12 dogs off lead on the Park in the space of 20minutes! Dogs are not to be off lead in these areas but they very frequently are. I have young children who are not used to dogs and now have a great fear of them as they have been jumped on in Boyd Park on a number of occasions. When my children were babies I would take them in the push chair through the wetlands and would take a weapon just in case a dog attacked them as there were often dogs not under control. I have made numerous complaints via phone and later Antenno but to no avail. So yes, please have an easy access, well publicised area for owners to take their dogs so other park users do not have to be wary of uncontrolled dogs. This also needs to be well enforced.

Spur Street Esplanade, Te Aroha (Yellow B - portion near the Waihou River under the footbridge)

We’re looking at expanding the current Spur Street Esplanade into an off-leash area which will be managed by a community group but available for everyone to use. What do you think?

I like it but wouldn’t use it

See previous comment.

I don't have a dog but can imagine having a larger area like this would be great for dog owners.

Te Aroha boat ramp

We’re looking at removing the boat ramp reserve, changing it from an off-leash to an on-lead area, as it’s prone to flooding and has the Hauraki Rail Trail running through it. What do you think?

I agree, make it an on-lead area
Comments:
I occasionally use the bike trail and haven't had any incidents with dogs but I can see bikes and dogs may not mix well.
