Freshwater Gold Clam

The Freshwater Gold Clam, an invasive species, has been discovered in the Waikato River. It is currently known to be in a 45km stretch of the river, from just upstream of Lake Karāpiro to Hamilton. The Ministry of Primary Industries are asking for people to do two things:

1. Report any sightings to Biosecurity New Zealand on 0800 80 99 66 or by completing the online reporting form at report.mpi.govt.nz.

2. For those who go into the river to be very careful to Check, Clean, and Dry gear and watercraft before going to any other part of the river or any other waterway.
