Tom Grant Drive Playground Opening

What began as a consultation on the location of a swing set up for renewal in Matamata soon became so much more.

The Tom Grant Drive Committee teamed up with Council to raise funds for a larger scale playground upgrade on their street, with the help of a generous donation from the Langlands family.

The playground was constructed by Playground Creations, who were refueled with regular scone deliveries from Tom Grant Drive residents, and ended up finishing a couple of weeks ahead of schedule.

An official opening was held on Tuesday morning where Tom Grant Drive Committee members, Playground Creations staff, the Mayor and MPDC staff were all in attendance. A ribbon strung between two spring riders was cut by Mayor Adrienne and committee member Rosemary - and the playground was declared officially open!

Mayor Adrienne said, “It is great when community and Council can work together and the stars really aligned with this playground being up for renewal.” She anticipates it being a very well-used playground, and residents reported that a dozen kids have already been there enjoying the new equipment.

You can check out the new playground on Tom Grant Drive (Centennial Drive) – between Weka Street and Karaka Street.
