Tom Grant Drive swing renewal

Image

What is being proposed?

The lone swing near the Tawari Street end of Tom Grant Drive is due to be replaced and we are taking it down soon. We are ordering a new basket swing. The new basket swing was going to replace the old swing but the Tom Grant Drive committee have asked us to consider adding it to the Tom Grant Drive playground instead. Before we say yes, we are keen to run it past those who live close to the current swing first. What do you think about this idea?

This survey is now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey. The majority voted to keep the new swing in its current location. Where people provided a reason, we have published them below. Thank you to those who also submitted comments for consideration. All going well, we aim to have the new basket swing installed by Christmas.

Reasons provided by the community to keep or relocate swing

No way! I love having a swing there.

I have previously replied, however, also remember something to add.....The swing being removed, was suitable for young babies, that could sit on their own, with a chain to keep them in. That is lacking from the one being installed. The swing is frequented by many with younger children, knowing that it is safe. The new swing does not have that safeness.

My son often likes to play on his own and can get overwhelmed with other kids.
He’s on the spectrum so I think it’s a good idea to have the option there for other kids like him.

It's so nice having a little swing that's not part of the playground. For mums who want to take their little ones out to play, it's often closer which is great for walking.

No way! I love having a swing there.

This is a nice open space and there ks a seat that was donated to a previous Tom Grant Dive committe so that parents or caregivers had somwhere to sit while the children played

No way! I love having a swing there.

The big playground is too far away for our littlies to walk to. The swing by the Buchanan street walkway is perfect for families that are more that end of the drive. It is great to have it as a stand alone piece of play equipment.

Not bothered either way.

No way! I love having a swing there.

It is closer and more convenient for people living between the Tawari/ Ngaio St section of the Drive and also for people coming from the other side of Tawari St.

No way! I love having a swing there.

We have grandchildren who love the swing and there is a bench seat near by which is helpful - this was donated by a community group.
Is the proposed swing going to be large enough for our young with disabilities to enjoy ?

Go for it, great idea!

A flyer has been delivered to the homes of those who live close to the current swing set at the Tawari St end of Tom Grant Drive.

We have also placed a sign by the swing and each entrance to that section of Tom Grant Drive.
