Your Questions about Three Waters Reform

The three waters reform is being led by central Government. Councils currently have an opportunity to raise any issues/concerns on their communities’ behalves.

First, read the questions others have raised below – you can like someone else’s question/comment to let us know that you support it
If someone else hasn’t already raised the issue you want addressed, you can add your own question using the button at the bottom of the page.

We'll use all of this feedback to help inform our conversations with the Government.

Will a private bore paid gor and owned by the landowner be affected in any way by the Three Waters legislation?

We have a bore for stock water on 2.5 hectares water isn’t drinkable due to tannins but ok for gardens etc as part of the easement on a right of way the neighbour has rights to draw water also for stock water from the bore in a contact built into the easement clause. We only use this water during the summer months for gardens and a couple of troughs for the stock . I would like to know what is changing in the reform .happy to supply more details but total usage a year would maybe be on tank a year

What is wrong with the present system. Do we not have the experience and staff to build on what we already have. Is it a question of finance?. If council did the work and borrowed the money to do it, where's the problem. All this is doing is creating another level of administration which is not needed. MPDC has within its boundaries some of the best water sources in the whole region, now we give it away.

So mayor Ash, artical in the local paper, states we do not support it in its current form. So is it a yes or no, its all simple. This Government hasn't delivered on ANY of its policy. These are council assets, built up over years of input, from rates, and council management. All councils should be very weary, this will be a disaster. Regards Terry

Morrinsville is going to face major water problems in the next few years. We have always had issues each year with water shortage. Can only see this getting worse as Lockerbie comes on stream. We need a better water supply. One suggestion would be to take water from the waihou river ( endless supply). I believe our council are the best people to run this. Other councils over the years have done a Grt job so I believe our current council is more than capable of running our water future. Remember once it’s gone it’s gone. 100 %back our council.

What is the real STORY behind this.? Maybe the Govt could tell the truth

Why is the government hell bent on owning all fresh water in NZ? The system works reasonably well as it is except for Auckland last year which was clearly down to mismanagement. I don't want this or any corrupt government to hold this kind of power over us. We know it's going to cost us dearly in the future as this government has racked up a huge national debt.

Why are we being forced to accept something which is already owned and run by local council, and running efficiently.. MPDC need to run the water reticulation in this district as government APPOINTED members to control the 3 waters would have no idea about the growth rate in this district or take any notice. We in the district would have no chance at electing the members for this government body and, NO REDRESS. I take the view if it isn't broken then why tamper with it. I do not agree with a 50% split between maori and the rest of us. People should be ELECTED on their merits.for a public body.I feel this government is trying to brainwash us into leftish leanings and dictate their views. I have no confidence in this government to manage something like this. The council needs to listen to their ratepayers in this regard. I have yet to talk to anyone who is in favour of this proposal. Please listen before it's too late.

Where is all the money coming from to service the 3 waters system? Will the government get all the rates and divvy it up back to the council? Will there be water meters installed on every outlet? Or will there lust be tax reform or maybe even rates go up.
As with all boards they are paid well in excess of what they are worth so at a guess one board 12 members $200k each plus all the hangers on plus the new office building! Wages alone to run central North Island 3 waters could be $4 million in the one building! And by 2050 we will be saving money?

My concern is how this is going to affect farmers in the local district who supply water (from on farm bores), to houses on their farms. This water comes from deep in the ground and is very good quality, yet under Three Waters the farmers will have to treat it like Council's treat town water. This doesn't make any sense to me, how about you?

Why would any resident want a socialist government to take over all the Three waters services just to give them to the Maori, the government have said that is what they are going to do, who ever takes the waters over from council could hold the whole community to ransom, this has got to be a sick joke.

I would like the council have a good read of the following article re the Three Waters Reform and walk away from it. It is a Trojan horse for the rate payers. https://thebfd.co.nz/2021/09/06/time-to-pull-the-plug-on-three-waters/?fbclid=IwAR39Ab04qRwpczO_2gxB7AvakYeWTr_fZ5QuuyJkTNSRR9jN0Ic80uVlOFA

What is the real agenda for the proposed change to our current arrangements. The Government should come clean and tell the citizens of New Zealand, what is really going on

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The system is perfect as it is. Why change it? I am sure there is a hidden agenda here. Please confirm if that is correct.

Why is the Government not being taken to task for deliberate misinformation(LIES)) on the state of water in general. We are not getting mud in our supply, waste water is being handle efficiently.
After listening to the Minister on Q&A this morning (12 Sep.) I am more than ever convinced that she will override all Council's. MPDC is maintaining a good facilities and we ,the residents, must be made fully aware of all the Government intends.

To have all councillors read/research Muriel Newman’s article on this subject.
It can be found on. www.nzcpr.com
Your opinions would be very much appreciated and of course recorded on your page
Also to put this website online, through your page, so Community can be totally Informed. Thank you

Stop wasting your time on investigating. Your ratepayers (essentially your employers) do NOT want this. Councillor's have been voted on to represent ratepayers. Ratepayers have said no. Start listening!!!! Use the time to actually achieve something ratepayers want.

The proposed Government/iwi set-up will diminish the councils influence in managing/controlling Three Waters.

The main concerns I have here is a) the council won't hold a community referendum and b) if the 3 waters goes ahead, what's to stop the Government allowing International interests to take over - eg Chinese ownership.

With new legislation lifting the water delivery standards, there's going to need to be significant investment to keep pace. I'm not sure it's realistic for our Council/district to do this alone.

What involvement does iwi have in the reform? Will they own the assets if this goes ahead?

Currently when there's a problem with the water, Council's pretty quick to respond. I'm concerned that we'll end up talking to someone in a call centre on the other side of the world, who has no idea where Matamata is. After they work out where we are, our issue will be moved down the priority list because we're small and rural, and larger/more dense populations will get their attention.

This is a significant change and I would expect the public to be consulted or a referendum held before a decision is made at the end of 2021.

Our district is experiencing rapid growth and it's important to make sure our water supply keeps pace through investment. Will becoming part of a larger area mean more competing interests for that investment dollar, and small rural communities like ours miss out? Or will an organisation whose only role is water services mean there's more investment funding to go around?

As long as there's water when I turn on the tap, and pay a fair amount for that service, I don't really care who delivers our water.

Even though Councils will still be the water asset owners, I'm still concerned this is a step towards privatisation. What assurance do we have that won't happen?
