Stock Control
Animal Control Officers also respond to all calls relating to stray stock (in accordance with the Impounding Act 1955).
Unclaimed stock is held in the pound and if not claimed by the owner after notification in the local newspaper, it may be sold at auction to help recover costs.
You can find the fees for the current year here. Fees and charges are reviewed on 1 July each year.
Moving stock this winter?
As we approach Stock Movement Day (also known as Gypsy Day) on Monday 1 June 2026, we wanted to remind you that it’s time to start thinking about your stock droving plans.
For those of you who are new to the district, Stock Movement Day is a special day in the farming calendar, where farmers move their stock to new grazing land for the winter.
You can submit your applications for a stock permit online here - it's easy, convenient and completely free!
We kindly remind you that all applications must be received no less than three working days prior to stock droving. This will give us enough time to process your application and ensure a smooth and safe stock movement for all.
