Streetlights
Te Aroha

We are aware of streetlights not working around Whitaker Street, Rewi Street, August Street, Wild Street, King Street and Burke Street in Te Aroha. We have logged these issues with our streetlight contractor and will let you know when we have a timeframe for repairs. 

In the meantime, please take extra care when walking, cycling or driving at night. 

Breen Place and Stirling Drive

We are aware of streetlight issues in this area and the repair has been passed on to Powerco after our own contractors attended the site last week and advised that it was a Powerco issue. Please ring Powerco directly if you have any concerns.

Temporary road closures    
Quine Road

We are closing Quine Road on Sunday 7 September 2025 from 6am to 6pm so Thames Valley Car Club can hold their annual Hillclimb event.

Quine Road will be closed from 323 Quine Road, Morrinsville-Tahuna Road end, through to 609 Quine Road, Tahuna-Ohinewai Road end.

Resident access will be available.


Roadworks

Matuku Road

Works will start on 15 September to repair and widen a section of road and pavement from 1840-2549 Matuku Road. The road will be closed during works but resident and emergency service access will remain available. The works are expected to finish by 22 October.


Proposed temporary road closure

Waterworks Road, Tahuroa Road and Starkey Road

We are proposing a closure of the following roads to ordinary traffic for the period stated below so Club Targa Inc. can conduct the Targa Bambina 2025 Motorsport Event. Roads to be closed:

  • Waterworks Rd - 300m from its intersection with Chepmell Rd to its intersection with Te Miro Rd
  • Starkey Rd - 300m from its intersection with Bell Rd and Scotsman Valley Rd to Tahuroa Rd
  • Tahuroa Rd - from its intersection with Starkey Rd to Waikato District boundary

Date and time of closure:

Wednesday 15 October 2025

  • Waterworks Rd from 12.50 - 5.20pm
  • Starkey Rd and Tahuroa Rd from 12.25 - 4.55pm

Any person wishing to make a submission on the proposed closure should do so in writing, to Leanne Keenan, to reach the Matamata-Piako District Council Office at PO Box 266, Te Aroha, by midday on Thursday 14 August 2025.

SH1/SH29 Piarere intersection

Minor delays are expected as these works wrap up. Traffic management will be in place, including a temporary reduced speed limit of 30km/h in the affected lanes, and will be removed at the conclusion of each shift. The project is on track to be completed in late August. More information.
